Out in Defense exists to serve LGBTQ Americans who choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights. We provide education, community, and support for those navigating the intersection of LGBTQ identity and responsible firearm ownership.
We believe that civil rights are for everyone — including the right to keep and bear arms. Our mission is to create an inclusive space where LGBTQ gun owners can find practical information, share experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals who understand both the joys and challenges of living authentically while exercising constitutional rights.
What We Believe
All rights matter. Your right to live openly as an LGBTQ person and your right to self-defense aren’t in conflict. They’re both fundamental freedoms that strengthen each other.
Personal choice is paramount. We don’t believe everyone should own a firearm. We believe everyone should have the right to make that choice for themselves, free from judgment or pressure.
Education saves lives. Whether you’re considering firearm ownership or are an experienced shooter, ongoing education in safety, law, and best practices is essential.
Community creates strength. LGBTQ gun owners shouldn’t have to navigate this journey alone. We’re stronger when we support each other.
Responsibility comes with rights. Exercising Second Amendment rights means committing to safety, training, legal compliance, and thoughtful decision-making.
Inclusion builds bridges. The firearms community is better when it welcomes all law-abiding Americans, and the LGBTQ community is stronger when it embraces all our members’ choices.

We acknowledge that gun ownership isn’t right for everyone, and we respect those who choose different paths for personal safety and protection. At the same time, we firmly defend the right of LGBTQ Americans to make their own choices about self-defense.
Safety and Responsibility
Everything we do is grounded in the fundamental principles of firearm safety:
- Treat every firearm as if it’s loaded
- Never point a firearm at anything you don’t intend to destroy
- Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
- Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it
We promote ongoing training, proper storage, legal compliance, and thoughtful decision-making in all aspects of firearm ownership. We believe that exercising rights comes with exercising responsibility.
